Bank, groups get housing grants PDF Print E-mail

A Sioux Falls community development organization has received a $192,000 housing grant awarded through the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines.


Home Federal Bank partnered with DakotAbilities and received a $192,000 grant to create housing for low-income people. The money will be used to construct two single-story homes containing 12 units for disabled people and to rehabilitate two single-story group homes into 20 units, including 15 for disabled people.
Bank member financial institutions partner with community development organizations to compete for AHP grants.
Home Federal also partnered with Habitat for Humanity-South Dakota to receive a $168,000 grant for construction of 26 new homes and acquisition/rehabilitation of two existing homes in urban and rural areas and on Native American trust land.
First State Bank partnered with Northeast South Dakota Community Action Program in Veblen to receive a $56,288 grant for the rehabilitation of an eight-unit targeting elderly and Native Americans in rural South Dakota.

 
Gold Wing tour in town through Thursday PDF Print E-mail

The Gold Wing Touring Association’s annual Gold Rush Rally began July 16 in Sioux Falls and will run through July 19. The national gathering is expected to bring more than 1,400 motorcyclists to Sioux Falls.
The Sioux Falls Convention & Visitors Bureau estimates that the convention will generate  $1 million of spending in the city.
The GWTA is a nonprofit organization of touring motorcyclists. The organization is owned and operated by its members, who predominantly drive Gold Wing motorcycles.
Club members are scheduled to spend time at several sites and events in and near Sioux Falls, including Wild Water West Waterpark, MidAmerica Motorplex and the American Association All-Star Game.
Riders will parade through Sioux Falls on Tuesday night and participate Wednesday night  in events at Hot Summer Nites in the downtown area.
Motorcycles will be on display for public viewing beginning at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Convention Center parking lot and Wednesday night, after the Wells Fargo Sound and Light Show, in the parking lot at Falls Overlook Cafe in Falls Park.

 

 
Foxworthy to treat First Premier/Premier Bankcard crowd PDF Print E-mail

Comedian Jeff Foxworthy will perform tonight in Sioux Falls for employees of First Premier Bank and Premier Bankcard and their guests.

The show is scheduled for 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Sioux Falls Arena.

A similar performance for company employees and their guests is scheduled Saturday night at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City.

First Premier Bank and Premier Bankcard employ more than 3,200 people in South Dakota.

“We are excited for our employees and their guests to experience the comedy of Jeff Foxworthy at this year’s LaughStock

The Premier Event of the Summer,” said Dana Dykhouse, president and chief executive officer of First Premier Bank.

Miles Beacom, president and chief executive officer of Premier Bankcard, said the event is a reward to employees for outstanding service to customers.

“The heart and soul of an organization is its people. We are constantly looking for ways to encourage our people and give them opportunities to grow and develop as professionals,” Beacom said.

Cash door prizes totalling $75,000 also will be given to employees at the event, according to the company.

Foxworthy, who is known for telling redneck jokes, has won multiple Grammy Awards and written 22 books. He also is  hosting the TV show “Are You Smarter Than a 5th grader?”
