Students from Roosevelt, Washington and West Central high schools will be competing at the Junior Achievement of South Dakota office for the regional title and a chance to move into the National competition in New York City this July. The competition is at 11:30 a.m. May 30. The four invited teams will compete against 21 other regional locations from across the country. Citigroup Foundation and Junior Achievement Worldwide chose South Dakota along with the 21 other sites as pilot locations for the Banks in Action program. The program and competition are being funded here in Sioux Falls by a donation of $4,000 from Citigroup Foundation. “Citigroup’s community partnership with Junior Achievement has been strong for over 25 years,” said Kristie Fiegen, president of Junior Achievement of South Dakota Inc. “Citigroup expanded their partnership this year by developing the new JA Banks in Action high school program. We are excited about their commitment to impacting students with financial education.” The Citigroup Foundation will fly the top 10 teams to New York City. |

The Munchies II convenience store at 10th Street and Minnesota Avenue will close by June 1. Mistie Wehrkamp’s original Munchies store at 717 W. 11th St. will remain open. “Hopefully, everyone will come over to the other Munchies and see us,” she says. Wehrkamp expects Munchies II to run out of gasoline by May 29 or 30, and then shut down for good. Her lease with the Pam Taylor family would have expired in July, and she is not renewing it. Executives with Taylor Oil Co. have not responded to repeated telephone inquiries. The c-store site at 10th and Minnesota is expected to be converted into a used-car lot. |
