Fourteen Farm Service Agency offices in South Dakota would be consolidated into seven offices as part of a a nationwide reorganization plan.
All offices in southeastern South Dakota would be spared from consolidation. The one change in this region would be that the farm loan files for Turner County would be relocated to McCook County.
The office consolidation plan would pair Campbell County with Walworth County, Hyde County with Hand County, Sanborn County with Jerauld County, Jackson County with Haakon County, Mellette County with Jones County, Todd County with Tripp County and Dewey County with Ziebach County to a new location at Eagle Butte.
U.S. Rep. Stephanie Herseth, D-S.D., said she has serious concerns about the effect the consolidation would have on farm and ranch families and doubts the plan will result in substantial savings of taxpayer dollars. |
