Cleveland-based Eaton Corp. has acquired Pulizzi Engineering Inc., which has a branch in Sioux Falls. Pulizzi Engineering's corporate headquarters is in Santa Ana, Calif., but the company has a plant at 4300 W. 61st St. N. Sioux Falls-based Michael Pulizzi, vice president of sales and the son of the company's retiring founders, said he plans to remain with the firm. Pulizzi Engineering, which is now a division of Eaton, makes and sells AC power distribution and control systems. The company employ 12 people in Sioux Falls and 50 in California. The company relocated its Sioux Falls branch to a new facility last August. The local plant is designed to accommodate more than 35 workers and has additional room for expansion. Michael Pulizzi expects the company's blending with Eaton to spur business growth. Pulizzi had sales of $12 million in 2006. Eaton makes electrical systems and a variety of other industrial products. It has 61,000 employees and had 2006 sales of $12.4 billion. Eaton is a publicly traded company. Its stock is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol ETN. Eaton's acquisition was completed June 19. Terms were not disclosed. "The acquisition of Pulizzi broadens our power quality and distribution offerings and builds upon our existing strong product line," said Eaton senior vice president Randy W. Carson, who is also president of Eaton's Electrical Group. |

Small-business owners will be able to accept credit and debit card payments and have access to funds the next business day through a new checking account offered by Wells Fargo. The bank's merchant checking service will combine full-service business checking with credit and debit card processing at a flat rate of 1.99 percent plus 30 cents for all signature-based Visa and MasterCard transactions. Merchant checking is applicable to all card types, including rewards cards, as well as both keyed and swiped transactions. According to a 2006 American Bankers Association study, credit and debit cards are now consumers' preferred method of payment, while cash and checks account for less than half of consumers' monthly payments. |

The Sioux Falls Career Center, a branch of the South Dakota Department of Labor, will conduct a second job fair Thursday for displaced workers from Hutchinson Technology Inc. The Minnesota-based company recently announced the elimination of 90 positions at its Sioux Falls manufacturing plant. The job fair will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at state offices at 811 E. 10th St. Representatives of 16 area employers with openings are scheduled to attend and meet with potential applicants. A similar job fair was held Monday. Greg Johnson, manager of the career center, said some workers are receiving job offers. "We are very pleased to quickly respond to these workers' needs and facilitate job interviews within days of their layoff," he said. Midwestern Mechanical Inc. hopes to move into its new operations headquarters by Oct. 31. Construction of the 59,000-square-foot facility is under way at the southwest corner of Lewis Avenue and 52nd Street North. The company has outgrown its present space at 231 N. Weber Ave., say co-owners Dwayne Klarenbeek and Frank Howe. The company provides plumbing, heating, air conditioning and fire-protection-system contracting services.
