Sioux Falls-based Millennium Recycling Inc. will launch the city’s first single-stream recycling program beginning July 1.

Under the single-stream program, residents and businesses will no longer be required to separate recyclable materials into different categories.

With the exception of electronics, all recyclables including newspapers, magazines, cardboard, junk mail, office paper, plastic containers, aluminum and metal cans can be mixed in one container.

"Single-stream is certainly the future of recycling,” said Jake Anderson, owner of Millennium Recycling. “Many major metro areas are now collecting materials in this fashion, and many more communities have plans to change to single-stream recycling. We are excited about bringing this new technology to Sioux Falls and the surrounding areas.”

In the coming weeks, Millennium Recycling will be educating people about the new program through their “One Container, No Sorting” campaign, as well as working with the area waste and recycling collectors to help implement the new program.

Not all Sioux Falls waste and recycling collectors are serviced by Millennium Recycling.
