Exports from South Dakota to other countries increased 26 percent from 2005 to 2006, according to the U.S. Commerce Department. In recent years, top destinations for South Dakota products have included China, Canada, Mexico, Qatar, Hong Kong and the United Kingdom. Leading products range from manufactured machinery and equipment to electronics and processed food. "Nine-five percent of the world's consumers live outside the United States, and more South Dakota companies are working to reach these buyers," said Cinnamon King, director of the U.S. Export Assistance Center in Sioux Falls. "Exporting helps companies increase their bottom line, and those who think global have a competitive advantage in today's marketplace." For help from the U.S. Commercial Service, businesses may call the assistance center at 330-4264 or visit www.export.gov. |
