Fenno hopes event leads to group for single professionals

Caroline Fenno wants to create an alternative to the bar scene for the single professionals of Sioux Falls.

“This has been a passion of mine to do something,” she said.

What she has done is organize Winterfest Wine Tasting for Single Professionals on Jan. 19 at the Museum of Visual Materials.

But Fenno, 44, hopes the event is just the beginning. She wants to establish a group for single professionals.

Many single professionals have unique personal situations, Fenno said.

“For instance, we do put in a lot of extra hours. You really do have to juggle your home life with your professional life, you do have some goals;and you do have some extra things you’re striving for in your life professionally and personally,” she said. “It’s a good way to network to find out how do other people do things and find out things they can do to enhance their lives personally and professionally.”

There seems to be interest. Fenno said the event’s MySpace account had more than 600 hits in its first week. She expects 300 people at Winterfest.

Fenno, who works in sales, said she’d need at least 20 participants to establish the group, which would emphasize networking and social support as well as dating. An existing networking group in Sioux Falls, Synergy, caters to ages 20 to 39, while Fenno said her group would be for all ages.

“There are so many new people to Sioux Falls,” Fenno said.
