"The World Without Us" • Alan Weisman
A hot topic in the news today is living green. In his book “The World Without Us,” Alan Weisman gives us a different perspective of the impact humans have on this planet. Imagine a world where all people suddenly vanish but everything else is left intact. Would the world heal itself and how long would it take to recover without us? Weisman describes scenarios and processes the Earth takes to rejuvenate and renew once humans disappear. Using examples of mega-cities, forests and oceans, he reveals how nature reclaims and regains its viability to support life without human intervention.
He describes what man-made creations might survive. And he gives a solution for our planet to continue without having everyone disappear.
I recommend reading this unique book if you are interested in our world. – Sharon Sopko, director of academic coordination, University Center |
