Albariño • $14.99-$24.99
Albariño, from the wine region of Rias Baixas (REE-ez BUY-shez), is considered to be Spain’s most respected white wine. It is grown only in Spain in the province of Galicia and until recently was a grape varietal unknown in our area. Albariño’s flavor profile is unique. As Karen MacNeil describes it in her book “The Wine Bible,” “Its flavors range from zingy citrus-peach to almond-honeysuckle, and its texture is supple and lightly creamy.” I couldn’t agree more. It is somewhat racy in its crispness and is a very refreshing wine. Because this wine spends no time in oak, the best of them are light and the flavors are pure and vibrant. One could drink this by itself, but this wine is considered, hands-down, the best pairing for seafood in the world.
Albariño is a stunning partner with simply prepared seafood dishes, scallops in particular. White fish, oysters, clams and crab are also fantastic partners.
GoodSpirits carries five Albariños ranging in price from $14.99 to $24.99. – Heather Taylor Boysen, owner/manager, GoodSpirits Fine Wine & Liquor |
