In anticipation of Valentine’s Day, LeisureSuits posed several questions to two couples who are active in the business community. Here are their e-mailed responses.

Q: Do you have any advice for other professional couples? Or what is the best advice you’ve received as a couple?

A: When Scott went to work for Lloyd Cos., Craig (Lloyd) told Raquel, “The problem with working together is never that you spend too much time talking personal at work, but that you talk too much work at home.” That being said, our kids are picking up on real estate lingo. Beau told us that he didn’t think he could work for Lloyd Cos. because he did not know the difference between 400 square feet and 500 square feet. Daddy said, “That’s OK, neither do I.”

Q: Do your professional lives challenge or enhance your relationship and how?

A: I think it mostly enhances the relationship. You get to wink at your spouse in the hall! We have different strengths and we recognize that. So when we work on things together, we feel we can approach things from different perspectives.

Raquel Blount is vice president of commercial real estate at Lloyd Cos., and Scott Blount is broker associate at Lloyd Cos.

Q: How did you meet?

A: We first met in Evansville, Ind., at a shopping center. Raquel was working for General Growth Properties and assisting with the grand reopening of the Eastland Mall. Scott worked for Orion Food Systems and was opening a restaurant in the food court. Then Scott opened three restaurants in the food court of a mall in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where Raquel was the marketing director. I guess we were meant to work together.

Q: How long have you been together?

A: We have been together a little over 10 years.

Q: How do you balance your work and home lives?

A: Mostly, with luck. We truly have to be a team – it would not work unless we were willing to help each other out. Our kids come first, and we make sure that the focus stays on the family. Fortunately, it seems when one of us has a showing, the other can pick up kids and take care of the family.

Q: What is your favorite vacation spot?

A: The next one. Travel is something that brought us together. We both traveled for work and frequently took quick trips all over the U.S. and abroad. Our children have traveled with us to Belize, Jamaica, Mexico, Alaska and other parts of the U.S.

Q: Do you have children or pets?

A: We have a 6-year-old son, Beau, and an 8-year-old daughter, Britten.

Q: Any plans for Valentine’s Day?

A: The family will be together in Riviera Maya, Mexico.

Q: Who maintains your calendar at home?

A: Raquel – does it work any different in any other family?

Q: About how many events do you attend a month as a couple?

A: We limit the number of activities that don’t include our children. With the amount of time spent at work, we feel it is important to spend our spare time with our children.

Q: Are people surprised when they learn you are a couple?

A: Scott was showing some retail space and mentioned that he was going to Florida with Raquel. The guy turned to Scott with a surprised look and asked, “Are you dating her?”

Q: Is one of you more of a workaholic than the other?

A: Raquel. Scott provides the balance.

Q: What is each of your titles?

A: Raquel is vice president of commercial real estate. Scott is broker associate.
