Ah, springtime. The allure of this tempting season can make the most winter-hardened Midwesterner feel downright giddy.
There’s no escaping the intoxicating feeling that creeps over a Plains dweller when the area’s snow-covered landscape gives way to carpets of green grass. That’s especially true when the fresh scent of outdoors also seems to dare us to breathe the air more deeply than we did a few months ago. The days of early April feel like magic with so much newness everywhere. It seems like just the right time for a renewal, of sorts, of another kind. As this spring unfolds, the Sioux Falls Business Journal is embarking on a journey of its own – one that we hope will help us better serve our readers. This week marks the launch of a freshly reorganized Web site. The site features not only the sophisticated content that readers have come to expect each week in our printed version, but also our daily updates that deliver the latest news about local business. The site’s enhancements come as we’ve changed Web platforms in a move to improve how our site functions. Still, most of what our subscribers will experience while at www.sioux fallsbusinessjournal.com remains the same. The site continues to offer content such as Business Buzz, LeisureSuits and Databank. And readers can access special features such as The Source, our list of 2006-07 Reader Choice Awards winners and a preview of the 2007 Techknowlogy Summit. There are, however, some notable improvements on the site. • New subscribers to the Business Journal can create their own passwords when they open an account online. We hope that this flexibility helps make our paid content for our subscribers easier to access. Current subscribers who also want to create their own passwords can do so, too. Just call us at 977-3968, and we’ll lead you through the process. • We’re now able to post photos online with our stories. Look for that feature to begin in the weeks to come. • And subscribers can better search our online archive, which dates to the journal’s launch in October 2003. We’re still working on transferring back issues into the new platform’s archive, so only the past few months of issues currently are available. I apologize for any inconvenience that this interruption of access may cause. If you need access to a previous story, just give us a call at 977-3968. However, once completed, our new capabilities will allow Business Journal subscribers to search our archive without needing to know in which particular issue a story appeared. Our move to a new platform lays the groundwork for other improvements, such as reader participation features, that we’re planning to unveil throughout the year. The Business Journal’s mission is to be the go-to source for business news in the area. And providing a well-functioning Web site is a key part of fulfilling our mission. Feel free to let us know how the changes are working. We’re eager to respond to your needs. After all, spring is in the air. And the possibilities seem endless. |
