The House Appropriations Committee has approved a bill that incudes $25 million for the Lewis & Clark Regional Water System. Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin requested the funding in the energy and water appropriations bill. President Bush earlier this year recommended no funding for the project that will deliver water to more than 300,000 residents in South Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota. “Although the president’s proposed budget ignored the needs of rural Americans by recommending zero funding for Lewis and Clark, I’m pleased that the project received a much stronger level of funding in the House Appropriations Committee,” Herseth Sandlin said. The legislation also includes $28.2 million for Mni Wiconi Rural Water Project in western South Dakota and $3 million for the Perkins County Rural Water System.
