(submitted photo) Tom Walsh Sr., president and founder of Los Cabos Children’s Foundation, recently announced a matching gift of $1.5 million for the project. The Nano Nagle Hospitality Home will provide lodging to patients and or families at no charge. The more than 16,000-square-foot home will have the capacity to serve 16 to 20 families at one time. In addition, there will be a large common space and garden area as well as a caretaker apartment. Two guest rooms will be designed for children and families traveling to Avera McKennan from Los Cabos for life-saving medical care.
“Currently, Avera McKennan serves more than half of the regional market and over half of those patients must travel from outside Sioux Falls,” said Fred Slunecka, regional president of Avera McKennan. “Providing lodging to our out-of-town patients and their family support systems during critical health situations is essential to our patients’ best possible healing.” Total estimated construction costs for the home is $3 million. “All children’s lives are sacred,” said Walsh. “Whatever we do to help one child helps all children. Our Nano Nagle Hospitality Home will provide support, hope and a better future for all involved.” The gift honors the five-year relationship between Avera and Los Cabos Children’s Foundation, which provides medical treatment for children of the Los Cabos area in Mexico and the United States.
